The Reality of Reservation and Caste Debate in India
In Our India / Bharat the topic of reservation often sparks heated debates between people from the Each Category General OBC ,SC And ST category .
But the Question In My Mind is why does this tension exist ? Could It We Fear Of Losing Sometime which all category people belive .But the Question is does this tension is necessary? Let’s break it down simply and address the myths, realities, and reasons behind these arguments.
Why Fear Of Reservation ?
People from the So Called Upper Class which are as Human as other are mostly know as General category often fear reservation because they believe it limits their opportunities which is not at all the the Reality of India And Indian Religions Believe . Historically, the General category has held more power, wealth, and access to resources . But During the British the rule this change take place .They Introduce this to for education and upliftment of the people who exploited throughout the history in the name religion belive and divided them four categories
* Brahmin: Priests, scholars, and teachers.
* Kshatriya: Warriors and rulers.
* Vaishya: Merchants, traders, and farmers.
* Shudra: Laborers and service providers
* Avarnas : involves groups outside the traditional four-tiered Varna system in Hinduism, which primarily encompasses Dalits or Scheduled Castes.
The Upper Caste People Who are Most Today General Class People sometimes argue that reservation takes away “their” share of jobs and educational seats. But is this argument is fair ? Be will talk this later in the article down below .
The truth is that reservation exists to level the playing field to ensure the working of the country other wise the elite people will be elite as they were before the independence and after independence According The Bhimrao Ambedkar The Father of Indian Constitution which also create pain in the stomach of general category people how a lower caste person has become / Know as ” The Father of Indian Constitution ” . Not all but some people who want total control of India’s Resources To Ensure there well-being and Family Future generations Grow and Not of other category people . But we know that the absolute monopoly creates corruption and misuse of power And the purpose of reservation after in independence of India is to ensures opportunities for all groups who were historically disadvantaged due to caste-based discrimination, poverty, and lack of access to resources. Which also going to Counter the Monopoly of One Caste or Category people .
Does Caste System Still Exist In India ?
The Answer Could be different for all Category people Because a General Caste People will never face the discrimination in public because they belive they are the superior in the society and all are down grade to them which taught by there parents and family member which as some point The Superiority and Inferiority Among the People of India .
Some people from the General category argue that casteism no longer exists . Yet, you often hear people say, “I am upper caste, and my friend is lower caste, but we are still friends.” By making such statements, they unintentionally highlight the very caste difference they claim doesn’t exist.
On the other hand, people from SC, ST, or OBC backgrounds may feel the discrimination more directly.
You might also have Hear General Category Students to say that“I scored 99.9% to get admission, but my SC/ST friend got in with 90%. This is unfair
“But they forget that the total population of there category people in the our country is higher than SC and ST combined and people from there category are wealthy and powerful enough to “To bend the rules” means to break or violate the rules slightly, which perfect example comes for the reservation of EWS Economical Weaker Sections who have the 10% of reservation even when the population of them are 2% in General category Population and we know how easy it to take make fake income certificate in India to ensure the EWS Quote There should be Transparency in This System.
Recently Dr Vikash Divya Kriti Sir an Famous UPSC Teacher has explain How People of General Category misuse the EWS Quote And it is Very easy for them to use this with power they hold in Our System .Having no though process and accepting what the other have told even after having the education that make the case worse in today Society.
This creates resentment, but it ignores the Systemic Inequalities that make reservation necessary in the first place.
Population and ReservationIndia’s population, according to the 2011 Census, is divided roughly as:
General Category: 36%
OBC: 41%
SC: 16%
ST: 7%
Reservation percentages in government jobs and education are:
EWS : 10 %
OBC : 27 %
SC : 15 %
ST : 7 %
PWD : 4 %
Which roughly means that even after reservations, more than 50% of opportunities remain open for merit-based competition. But Still we Fight because we still believe in that Reservation limit the opportunity for General category Students and Give Opportunities to other category Students.
Because of this we regularly listen that “ My Friend who belong to other Category Have got the seat in some institutes even after having less number to than me.
Even the facts is that Each Category Population is different than other which directly and Indirectly Decide the level of Competition.
The Higher number of people in your category the higher competition will be there for you more than other and If You want the top tier college or job you have to fight for that but we don’t see that facts because it easy to insult the other than working on your self and educated your self and working hard on yourself.
Does Reservation Reduce The Quality Of India’s Infrastructure ?
And Who believe that reservation reduce the quality of work force in Sector of Doctor and Engineering and etc Should Just know that JEE and NEET Are the Just entrance Test Not the Statements of Sucess and Failure
You Might also have listen that
” No I Can’t leave in a House which Contruct in a House which Contruct by a Lower Caste Person Because Got Admission in College due his/her Reservation Quota”
“Or Might Have listen no I can not operate myself or my family member in the hand of a lower caste people because he/ she have got admission in AIIMS due to his Reservation Quota”
Even If A Students From any category Qualified JEE Student With 100% Can Not Ensure that He/ She will become a best Engineer Untill He/She have the complete knowledge of Engineering in His/ Her Field on of Course
And Same for NEET Topper Too He/She can’t ensure that the life of Patients Untill he have Become a Doctor
And If you still belive that why you just do not hire the JEE Topper Before He Become a proper engineer/ Join the IIT And Make A House Or and Any kind of Stuff which he/she is going to study And Stay in that or use that for you.
And Same for NEET Topper just get operated your family Member By Him Before he Become A Doctor for AIIMS and Any College
And In Doctor Field the Surgery Can never be guaranteed any 100 % Sucess that why they signed the Informed Consent Form before the Operation to Ensure the There Image safety and there will be no legal action will take against them .
The Bigger Picture while we argue over reservation, it’s important to remember:
1. Government Jobs and Educational Seats are Limited Government jobs make up a tiny fraction (less than 2%) of India’s total jobs.Prestigious government college seats are also very limited compared to the country’s massive population of 140 crore.
2. Private Sector Bias: In Private jobs, there’s often hidden discrimination against SC, ST, and OBC individuals. Employers may assume they got their education through reservation and not merit, even though many excel through hard work.
Why Fight Over Reservation ?
Instead of fighting among ourselves, we should focus on:
1. Improving Opportunities for All : Expand educational institutions and job opportunities so competition is less fierce.
2. Eliminating Caste Bias: Society needs to move beyond caste-based discrimination. Judging someone’s worth based on their caste is not just unfair, but harmful to India’s progress.
3. Encouraging Equality in the Private Sector: Ensure fair hiring practices for SC, ST, and OBC candidates in private companies.
The Way Forward of Caste and Reservation debates often ignore the real issue:
Inequality in access to resources. General category individuals often have better economic and social support due to historical advantages, but that doesn’t mean people from reserved categories don’t deserve opportunities.
At the end of the day, reservation is not about taking something away from one group—it’s about giving everyone a fair shot. For India to truly progress, we must stop dividing ourselves and work towards a future where caste no longer matters.
Remember: The fight is not between castes; the fight is against inequality and discrimination.
